The Rise and Fall of a Professional Powerhouse
Once upon a time, this platform was the ultimate tool for professional networking. It connected you to opportunities, landed you freelance gigs from big-name companies, and even helped kickstart careers. But over the years, things began to shift—and not for the better.
The Early Days: When It Worked
Back then, it was a game-changer. A space where meaningful connections were made, and careers flourished. It wasn’t just a networking site; it was the networking site. You could find real opportunities, collaborate with talented people, and open doors that once seemed out of reach.
But like many great tools, its evolution took a turn. Slowly but surely, the feed became flooded with repetitive posts, unsolicited pitches, and surface-level content designed to keep users engaged without offering real value.
When Networking Became Noise
The feed that once inspired now feels like a digital MySpace—nostalgic and cluttered. Everyone’s an expert, but they’re all saying the same thing. The content feels forced, as if businesses are scrambling to stay relevant by creating just for the sake of it.
And let’s talk about the messages. If it’s not a recruiter from halfway around the world offering dubious opportunities, it’s yet another real estate pitch. Authentic connections have become harder to find.
Saying Goodbye
The breaking point came when I realized I wasn’t using the platform anymore—not meaningfully, at least. It had become a collection of past coworkers I’d never work with again and a constant source of spam.
So, I made the decision. I deleted my account. I’ve unlinked my data and stepped away for good. For now, I haven’t mentioned it to my company—they still find value in it for industry connections—but I believe it’s time for businesses to focus on corporate accounts for promotion, not individual ones.
RIP LinkedIn
If you’re still getting value from it, that’s fantastic. But for me, it’s time to move on. The platform’s heyday is behind us, and it no longer serves the purpose it once did.
What’s next? Simplifying my digital life, focusing on meaningful platforms, and spending my time on tools that actually make an impact. Stay tuned as I continue this journey.
