ejrojas.net is where I share my photography and video. It’s in Spanish, and most of it is from my church: retreats, worship, and church activities.
What it’s built with #
It’s built with Hugo, the same tool behind this site. Hugo takes simple text files and turns them into a fast website. There’s no database and nothing to log in to, so there’s less that can break.
What a photo website needs #
If you want to put your own photos online, these are worth copying.
- Make the photos load fast. Photos straight from a camera are huge. The site shrinks each one and saves it in a lighter format called WebP, so pages open quickly, even on a phone.
- Remove the hidden location data. Many cameras and phones save where a photo was taken inside the file. The site removes that before any photo goes online.
- Make sharing easy. Each photo has its own link, and there are buttons to send it on WhatsApp or Facebook.
- Respect the people in the photos. Anyone in a photo can ask for it to be taken down, and it comes down right away.
